Well, tomorrow is the big day! After eight years of hosting a multitude of small, local farmers at applewood for our regular Meet-the-Farmer (MTF) dinners, our time has finally come. Tuesday night we will be the featured farmers and we couldn’t be more excited!
If you aren’t familiar with the MTF dinners, they are truly a celebration of sustainable farming–both the food that is grown/raised/fished and the people who do what it takes to get the products from the land or sea to the plate. These dinners are six-course tasting menus paired with wine at every course, each dish built around at least one item from the featured farm. The farmers themselves are always in attendance and there is time allotted for a talk from the farmer and even a little Q&A. Chef David has always spoken to the guests as well and tomorrow night, we have the tremendous honor of getting to hear Chef Sam Sherman speak in his stead. We have had dinners featuring pork, wild sockeye salmon, organic vegetables, hand-crafted cheese, grass-finished beef, and lamb, to name just a few. The common thread? Every one of these dinners was made possible by people who believe that food is something special that we all share. It’s an extension of who we are whether we are chefs, foodies, or farmers.
For tomorrow night’s dinner menu, we were able to bring pork, mustard greens, turnip greens, garlic, tomatoes, cabbage, chiles, and free-range organic eggs. We’ll report back on how it went!
